DOWNTOWN BRANCH YMCA

 

The YMCA’s SKIPPERS Program is for children 6 months to 5 years.  Each level includes water adjustment, safety education, use of personal flotation devices, fun, exercise and parent education. 

Our swimming lesson program is offered year-round at our Downtown and East Branch locations with new classes starting the first of every month..

YMCA SKIPS (6-36 Months old)

PARENT/CHILD LESSONS

Parent and teacher help introduce child to water through fun songs, games and other early childhood learning techniques.

TIME:    Tuesday & Thursday  10:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.

 

PRESCHOOL AGE LESSONS (3 - 5 years)

PIKE / EEL

Children learn beginning skills such as kicking, breath control, paddle stroke, front and back floating and the use of personal flotation devices.

 

TIME:    Monday & Wednesday         6:00 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.

            Tuesday & Thursday           5:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

 

PROGRESSIVE SWIM (Ages 6 years and up)

Trained instructors help students develop endurance, water safety and swimming skills, along with self-confidence and water enjoyment.  Following are standards for classification:

 

GUPPY  Intermediate beginner: Can swim 20 feet without flotation device.

 

        TIME:    Monday & Wednesday         5:15 P.M. - 5:45 P.M.

                     Tuesday & Thursday           6:15 P.M. - 6:45 P.M.

 

MINNOW  Advanced beginner:  Can swim 50 feet with rotary breathing.

 

         TIME:    Tuesday & Thursday           7:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M.

 

FISH   Low intermediate: Can swim front crawl with rotary breathing.

 

         TIME:    Monday & Wednesday         7:15 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

 

ADULT   Beginners:    

 

         TIME:    Monday & Wednesday         8:00 P.M. - 8:45 P.M
